WHY CHLORINE DIOXIDE IS IDEAL FOR COOLING TOWERS

Unlike traditional chemicals, chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) is highly effective across varying conditions:

  •  Works efficiently even in high pH environments
  • Does not react with ammoniacal compounds
  • Stable performance even in the presence of organic contaminants
  • Consistent dosage requirements for reliable microbial control

This makes CDD 5000 one of the most dependable solutions for industrial cooling tower water treatment.

HOW CDD 5000 WORKS

CDD 5000 comes as a two-component powder system (A & B):

  1. Fill the container with clean tap water (1L, 5L, 10L, 50L – as per label).
  2. Add component A, followed by component B.
  3. Gently swirl and close the container securely.
  4. Allow 4 hours for activation.
  5. Once ready, you have a 0.5% chlorine dioxide solution prepared for use.

COOLING TOWER WATER TREATMENT METHODS

Chlorine dioxide should be applied directly to the recirculating pump suction or beneath the sump near the pump intake. Two treatment strategies are commonly used:

  1. Intermittent Treatment (for less critical systems)
    • Applied 3 times daily (dawn, dusk, midnight)
    • Achieves 0.5 – 1.0 ppm residual
    • Duration: 30 minutes or 4 system turnovers (whichever is greater)
  1. Continuous Treatment (for critical systems)
    • Continuous dosing throughout operation
    • Maintains 0.1 – 0.2 ppm residual
    • Higher cost but ensures uninterrupted protection

MEASURING EFFECTIVENESS

Two methods are widely used for monitoring chlorine dioxide levels:

 DPD Method

  • Produces a red solution proportional to concentration.
  • Requires adjustment (multiply by 1.9) for chlorine dioxide.

 CPR Method

  • More precise, specific to chlorine dioxide.
  • Measures how much red CPR dye is bleached.

KEY BENEFITS OF CDD 5000 IN COOLING TOWER TREATMENT

  •  Consistent microbial control
  • Effective even in high pH or contaminated water
  • Reduces scale, fouling, and corrosion
  • Improves cooling efficiency & energy savings
  • Extends system lifespan

CDD 5000 TREATMENT EXAMPLE: INDUSTRIAL COOLING TOWER APPLICATION

The water of an industrial cooling tower with a total system volume of 40 m3.The following table and calculation give the estimated daily CDD 5000 requirement.

SR. No. DAILY WATER CAPACITY(LIT) REQUIRED DOSE OF
CDD 5000 PER CYCLE(LIT)
CDD 5000
REQUIRED(LIT PER CYCLE)
1 40000 0.3 2.4
2 40000 0.4 3.2
3 40000 0.5 4

FORMULA FOR CALCULATING CDD 5000 DOSE

CDD 5000 required = Required dose rate (PPM) /5000 x Quantity of Water (Lit
