ZPM®– Zeta Potential Mixer by Dryden Aqua

The ZPM (Zeta Potential Mixer) is a high-performance static mixer designed to improve water quality, reduce chemical consumption, and provide a mechanical safety barrier against pathogens. Made from stainless steel for freshwater and titanium or plastic for marine applications, the ZPM® works without moving parts, electricity, or maintenance – offering a lifetime of reliable performance.

WHAT IS A ZPM®?

The ZPM is installed directly into your pipework to create cavitation and high-speed water rotation. This process:

  • Enhances coagulation and flocculation when used with products like All Poly Floc (APF), Active Catalytic Oxidiser (ACO), or NoPhos.
  • Reduces the zeta potential of water, causing particles to clump together for better filtration.
  • Increases the redox oxidation potential by up to 100 mV, making the water partially self-sterilizing.
  • Creates nano-bubbles that physically destroy bacteria, parasites, and biofilm colonies.

HOW ZPM® OPERATES?

How to use a ZPM®?

  • Cavitation Reaction: Water is compelled to spin rapidly, creating nano-bubbles.
  • Charge Neutralization: Dissolved particles can bind together since their electrical charges are balanced.
  • Optimized Disinfection: Pathogens’ cell walls are damaged when nano-bubbles adhere to them and burst, rendering chlorine far more potent.

Step 1:

  • Filtration with AFM

Step 2:

  • Coagulation and Flocculation with APF AND ZPM

Step 3:

  • Catalytic oxidation with ACO and ZPM

BENEFITS OF INSTALLING A ZPM®?

Before the Filter

  • Using AFM filters improves flocculation and coagulation for better filtering.
  • Lessens the need for chlorine by eliminating more impurities before disinfection.
  • Protects equipment downstream by acting as a pre-treatment.

After the filter:

  • Breaks down extremely chlorine-resistant organisms like Cryptosporidium mechanically.
  • Breaks down bacterial flocs and biofilms, allowing chlorine to kill any remaining germs quickly.
  • Lessens the slick bacterial coatings on pool surfaces and tile.

Important Features

  • It runs on the water pressure that is already there, so no power is required.
  • Lifetime Durability: Made of plastic, titanium, or stainless steel.
  • Zero Maintenance: There are no consumables or moving parts.
  • Compact Design: Simple to incorporate into either new or pre-existing piping.

INSTALLATION GUIDELINES

Upstream of the Filter (Pre-Treatment)

  • Choose a ZPM® with a pressure drop ≤ 0.3 bar for filters running at 30 m/hr.
  • Ensure electrical grounding to safely discharge static electricity.
  • Use a bypass if higher backwash flow is needed (40–50 m/hr).

Downstream of the Filter (Pathogen Control)

  • Aim for a pressure drop of 0.3–0.5 bar for maximum cavitation effect.
  • Higher pressure drop = stronger pathogen destruction.

Rule of Thumb for Private Pools:

  • 2″ filter piping → ZPM® upstream: 2 fins | ZPM® downstream: 3 fins.

Why Choose ZPM®?

  • Best Water Quality – Cleaner, clearer, and safer water.
  • Safety Barrier Against Pathogens – Physical destruction of bacteria and parasites.
  • Chemical Savings – Lower chlorine demand without compromising safety.
  • Small Investment, Big Performance – Pay once, benefit for life.
FAQs ABOUT ZETA POTENTIAL MIXER

A ZPM is a device that helps improve water filtration by mixing water and treatment chemicals in a special way. This mixing increases the effectiveness of filtration media like AFM®.

The ZPM uses turbulence and strong water flow to activate chemicals and charge particles in the water. This helps remove more dirt and harmful substances during filtration.

ZPMs are commonly used in swimming pools, drinking water plants, industrial water treatment, and other systems that require clean and safe water.

ZPM works best with advanced filter media like AFM® (Activated Filter Media), but it can also be used in systems with traditional sand filters for better results.

Yes, ZPM is compact and easy to install. It is usually connected before the filter in the water treatment system.
